Lee Firefighters Get New Gas Detecting Equipment and Truck

Firefighters in Lee County have some new and improved ways to help save lives after getting new equipment. On Wednesday morning, Lee County Public Safety received $10,500 grant from the Colonial Pipeline Company for gas monitoring equipment. "It's a life safety issue with gases," Interim Fire Chief David Forrester said.

On Wednesday morning, Lee County Public Safety received $10,500 grant from the Colonial Pipeline Company for gas monitoring equipment.

"It's a life safety issue with gases," Interim Fire Chief David Forrester said. "A lot of the gases do not have an odor, so you don't know they're present. You can actually die from inhaling the gases. It protects the firefighters."

Cleveland (OH) Fire Truck Hit by an Explosion

CLEVELAND - An alert Cleveland EMS crew discovered three garbage trucks on fire just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The fire was burning at Republic Services on Jones Road just north of the intersection of Broadway and Harvard Avenues when the EMS crew saw flame and smoke from Broadway Avenue.

One of the explosions happened as the first Cleveland Fire Engine company was passing the scene to get into position to fight the fire. The explosion appeared to send fire and debris into the side of the truck. The four firefighters inside jumped out and went to work as if nothing even happened.

'The Rock' Set to Roll for Worcester (MA) Fire Department

WORCESTER - The city's newest firetruck, Engine 12, nicknamed "The Rock," is ready to roll after a dedication ceremony Wednesday afternoon at Worcester Fire Department headquarters, 141 Grove St.The $492,000 firetruck received a blessing by the Fire Department chaplain, the Rev. Walter Riley, before it was placed into service.Fire Chief Michael J.

The E-One truck, built through Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, is known as a Worcester truck because it has a large engine and a heavy-duty transmission to climb the hills of Worcester, and has a short wheelbase to navigate the streets of the city.

Proposed salary increases for Longview non-union employees including fire chief

Campbell, who is not slated for a raise under the proposal, said Longview needs to keep wages for its employees competitive so it can attract and retain talented workers. The proposed plan would bring the average salaries of PTA employees to 1.04 percent below their peers. Fire Chief Phil Jurmu, Police Chief Jim Duscha and Public Works Director Jeff Cameron would all get a 6.

Oakland fire officials upset over blazes in city-owned building

The second time an Oakland fire crew rushed to a city-owned historic building to put out a blaze, Battalion Chief James Bowron nearly lost it. He and his fire crew had been at the site two weeks earlier, on April 8, to put out a fire on the first floor of the vacant building that squatters apparently had started.
