Detroit teen meets firefighter he says saved his life

Today a Detroit teenager got a chance to meet the firefighter who saved his life. Detroit Fire Fighter Lt. Theresa Halsell wasn’t at the house fire that burned the teen’s home, but she was the guest speaker who taught his class at Woodward Academy how to survive a house fire. Her lesson played out in real life for Thomas Locke when he woke up to a fire inside his Grandmother's home.

Funding Increased for Solvang (CA) Fire Station Extension

The cost for extending one bay of the fire station adjacent to Solvang City Hall increased by just over $10,000, and with nearly $10,000 in additional contingency funds authorized by the City Council, the cost of the $171,499 project could rise by $20,000.
That increase came even though pavement patching work was deleted from the project, saving a little over $16,000.

But council members said the increase in cost will be well worth the benefit the city will receive from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department’s new ladder truck the extended bay will house — a truck that isn’t costing the city a dime.

The single chassis ladder truck is being purchased for County Fire by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, which also provided the funding for the city to extend one equipment bay at Fire Station 30, which serves Solvang from its location on Second Street.

Champaign (IL) Fire station Location to be Studied

The fire department is studying whether one of their stations should be moved. Fire Station 3 has been on west Bradley avenue for half a century. The chief says that might not be the best place for it anymore.
He says the garage was designed for fire trucks as they were 50 years ago. Today's engines are a lot bigger, and the department had to build a new section on to the back of the garage just to fit one in. The crew there say they're one of the busiest-- if not the busiest-- engine company in the city.
