Coleman Fire Department Gets a New Fire Truck

COLEMAN, Texas - Coleman city officials helped roll in a new truck to the fire station Monday. The city's fire department received a $212,000 grant through FEMA last July to purchase the 2017 unit, according to Chief David Martinez. It will primarily be used to fight structure fires.

The rig was the first the department has purchased since 2006. The acquisition was made possible by a FEMA grant of $212,000. Total cost of the fire apparatus was $248,000. The city provided a 5 percent match to the $212,000 from FEMA. The new truck will be used primarily for structure fires.

Southington Fire Engine Struck by Car

The Record-Journal is a local print and digital daily newspaper covering local news, sports and community news in the Central Connecticut area

The rig was reportedly was struck while blocking a lane of traffic at the accident scene. The engine’s wheel and tire were damaged in the crash.


Vigilance is key. Apparatus don't always have to be moving for them to be involved in a crash. blind curves or civilians just not paying attention are the causes for many crashes involving stationary fire apparatus.

Longview, Cowlitz 2 crews battle fire at KapStone

A furnace fire that began at the KapStone Paper & Packaging plant in Longview posed significant challenges to firefighters as they tried to infiltrate the blaze without disturbing any asbestos. Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue and Longview firefighters were called out to the plant site at 12:32 p.m. Monday, and the fire continued to occupy responders well into Monday night.

Connecticut firefighter candidate sues city for disability discrimination over high blood pressure

A city resident, who was rejected as a firefighter because he has high blood pressure, has filed a $500,000 federal discrimination lawsuit against the city. Antonio Dias, 30, claims that although the city’s own doctor said he can perform the duties of a firefighter as long as he takes medication for his high blood pressure the city’s personnel director refused to clear Dias.
