Tender Task Force Drill in Ocean County

Firefighters from Ocean County participated Saturday in a Tender Task Force drill. Fire companies attending included Stafford, Eagleswood, West Tuckerton, Tuckerton, Parkertown, Barnegat, Waretown, Warren Grove and Cassville. Water tenders - sometimes called tankers - hold thousands of gallons of water and are used in areas without fire hydrants or when hydrant systems cannot deliver enough water to fight a fire.
A tender task force consists of tenders from many fire departments. Firefighters drill together periodically to practice establishing and using a water supply for a massive incident.

Aurora Looks to Build New Fire Station on West Side

Aurora could soon be building a new West Side fire station that has been in the works for almost 10 years. Aldermen are considering a resolution to hire R.C. Wegman, of Aurora, to be the construction manager and work with Dewberry Architects Inc. to construct Fire Station 7 on Kenilworth Avenue in Lincoln Park.

Fire officials have said they would like to have the new station operational by mid-December.

The new station will be built on land next door to the old fire station. After that, the second phase of the project is to tear down the old station, and do the requisite landscaping there.

Scott Co. Fire Dept. Awarded $1.75 Million in Fire Truck Repo Lawsuit

The Northwest Scott County Fire Dept. might not get any of the $1.75 million it was awarded in a lawsuit over repossessed fire trucks. "I hope the fire department is able to get every dime they're entitled to because they deserve it, " said Attorney Derick Allison.

When the department defaulted on payments a pumper truck, valued at more the $200,000 was repossessed as well as the rescue truck.

The leasing company sued the rural fire department. But, in a counter suit Attorney Derick Allison claimed the fire firefighters were misled and did not understand the agreement that was signed.

Time on Waiting List Yields Almost-Free Fire Truck for Peru

Instead of shelling out $600,000 for an airport crash truck, Peru received one for the cost of transporting it from Fort Campbell, Ky. Jeff King, Peru fire chief, showed the city's newly acquired airport crash truck to city officials recently at the Peru Public Works building on Plank Road.

Snohomish County Fire Districts 26, 28 want to make their merger official

Voters in Gold Bar and Index will be asked to combine Snohomish County Fire Districts 26 and 28 in an upcoming election. As of Wednesday, March 1, the two virtually volunteer-driven districts began working under a four-year interlocal agreement (ILA). The contract consolidates most operations, leadership and government, creating one fire chief and one assistant fire chief position, and combines each five-member board of commissioners into one 10-member board.
