Area Northwest of Billings (MT) Will Have Own Fire Service

Property owners north of Billings have a new fire service area to fight wildfires. The Yellowstone County Commission on Tuesday approved the creation of the Fuego Fire Service Area after receiving no public comments or protests on a resolution.
Previous to the Fuego Fires Service Area, property owners north of Billings who live mostly in the area of Lone Eagle Drive had no official fire protection. But the Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department had been providing fire and structure fire protection at no cost.

Three Highland County (OH) Fire Departments Win MARCS Grants

Three Highland County fire departments were awarded state grants for MARCS radios and user fees, the State Fire Marshal's office announced last week.
The awards included:

• Highland County North Joint Fire District, $49,500.
• Lynchburg Area Joint Fire & Ambulance, $48,397.
• Southern Highland Joint Fire District, $48,902.
MARCS is a radio system that is used across the state by emergency personnel and will help improve communication efforts during emergencies, making communities safer, according to a press release. The awards were part of $3 million that were given out statewide to fire departments.

Investigation Reveals Years of Complaints About Mold and Leaks in Seminole County (FL) Fire Station

9 Investigates uncovered years of complaints about leaks and mold that are making Seminole County firefighters stationed in Winter Springs feel sick. Investigative reporter Karla Ray got a look at recent upgrades meant to address the issues inside Station 24.
9 Investigates found the recent upgrades came after years of temporary fixes. Maintenance notes from summer 2012 describe “mold seeping through new paint” and emails about mold behind electrical covers. One email stated, “There is mold in the wall, and it is a health hazard for our personnel. This has to be addressed.”
