PHOTOS: Jeff Lewis was a freshman at George Mason University in 1986 when a moment of helplessness led him to his life’s calling. Driving home from class, he was one of the first to stop at the scene of a car accident where he found four seriously injured teenagers. Two boys had been ejected, and two girls remained belted inside the vehicle.

VIDEO: Commuters in Philadelphia and commercial truckers alike are bracing for what could be months of traffic disruptions due to the destruction of a section of Interstate 95, a critical artery for regional transportation.
An elevated section of I-95 collapsed Sunday after a tanker truck carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline flipped over on an off-ramp and caught fire, igniting a blaze that caused the northbound lanes to collapse and severely damaging the southbound lanes.

In the late spring heat, Bonneville Power Administration maintenance crews balanced on transmission towers in Washougal’s forested hills, waiting for a helicopter to hand off tools.
The team was tasked with replacing the tower’s insulators and various components, a routine job for BPA’s asset management that should not be overlooked, BPA District Manager Rob Robertson said.

Following a reception held at Chehalis City Hall for Adam Fulbright, the city’s new fire chief, Mayor Tony Ketchum swore Fulbright in at the beginning of Monday evening’s Chehalis City Council meeting.
“His resume is impressive with too many accomplishments to mention. He has already made a positive impact with the City of Chehalis and we look forward to that continuing for years,” Ketchum said, adding jokingly, “just as long as he doesn’t get to come back and ask for anymore $1.

A woman accused of setting fire to her home in Cinebar on Monday and ramming her car into a responding fire engine is now facing felony charges in Lewis County Superior Court.
The woman, Katherina L. Howard, 29, was charged Tuesday with one count each of first-degree arson, first-degree malicious mischief, tampering with a fire alarm or firefighting equipment with the intent to commit arson, driving under the influence and hit-and-run to an attended vehicle.
