Hemet (CA) Reopens Fire Station

The station, on Hemet Street just north of Florida Avenue, was opened in June 2005, closed in December 2008 to save money and reopened in February 2015 with a two-member emergency medical services squad. Now it is fully operational with a fire truck and three teams of three firefighters.
For the past eight years, the area was covered by Station 1, which is three miles away in downtown Hemet. It would take 10 to 12 minutes to respond to some calls. The new station should cut that in half.

Garden City (GA) Marks Completion of Fire Station Renovations

Garden City officials, employees and residents marked the completion of the full renovation of the city's Fire Station 2 during a lunch and a tour of the facility Tuesday. Fire Chief Corbin Medeiros said work to expand the 35-year-old station on U.S. 80 began last fall and provided additional space not only for the department’s equipment, but also for the firefighters to rest and unwind.

The work, an expense of about $375,000, was paid for entirely by special purpose local option sales tax funds, and mostly was conducted in-house by city employees. City Building Safety and Planning Director Ron Alexander said doing the renovations in-house contributed to a substantial savings for Garden City.

The station's new design provides an office for the assistant chief and for additional storage upstairs, the chief said. The back of the station, meanwhile, has space for the three firefighters on shift at a given time to relax, cook, sleep, shower and wash their towels and gear, Medeiros said.

Council Approves Funding for Portsmouth (ME) Fire Station Renovation

The Fire Department can now move forward with its long hoped for renovation of Fire Station 3 at the Pease International Tradeport. The City Council voted 9-0 recently to approve the $610,000 needed to renovate Fire Station 3 at the former Pease Air Force Base and then voted unanimously to approve a bonding resolution for $400,000 to purchase a rescue/support vehicle to replace the 1987 model it has now.
Other improvements planned for the station include upgrading the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, making site changes to address flooding that sometimes occurs at the station and adding to the bathroom facilities for the city firefighters stationed there.

The proposed renovation is a scaled-down version of what began in 2007 as a proposal to totally replace Station 3 at the former Pease Air Force Base. That plan could have cost as much as $3 million.

Buffalo (MO) to Purchase Used Fire Apparatus

The Buffalo City Board of Aldermen approved the purchase of a new police car and a used fire truck at its regular monthly meeting Monday night.
The board moved forward with approval to purchase a 2001 Freightliner pumper fire truck for $65,000 from Fire Master Fire Equipment, Inc. The addition of this truck to the fleet, according to fire chief Greg Cunningham, is that it would improve the ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating for the city, and that in turn could help decrease citizens’ insurance rates.
