Officers save elderly Bremerton couple from 2-alarm house fire

Law enforcement officers saved an elderly couple stuck inside a burning house Wednesday night. Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Northeast Vena Street at approximately 9:25 p.m., Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue said. Law enforcement officers arrived on scene first and evacuated the couple before firefighters arrived.

FDNY EMS ambulance fatally strikes 89-year-old man in Queens

An FDNY EMS ambulance struck and killed an elderly man walking in the passing lane of the Cross Island Parkway in Queens Tuesday night, police and fire sources said. Denver Fire Capt. Steven Holtz stretched across a treatment table at the Rocky Mountain Fire Academy as a physical therapist wrapped a thick red rubber band around his arm and began pulling Holtz’s arm over his head and back down. The physical therapist, Casey Stoneberger, worked to extend Holtz’s range of motion as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and biceps tendon.

Struggle remains for Ohio firefighters one year after tragedy
