Omak: Flames destroy from the North Country Pub

The North Country Pub, a longtime downtown restaurant and watering hole, was destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday, Nov. 29. Details about the fire and its cause were not known at Chronicle press time. Omak and Okanogan fire departments and LifeLine Ambulance were called at 1:40 a.m. Omak Fire Chief Kevin Bowling called a few minutes later for the Okanogan County Public Utility District to respond and shut off electricity.

First-degree arson In La Center allegedly the result of a tough break up

Last week, a woman living in a mobile home in La Center allegedly set her house on fire while she was inside of it. The resident, Cindy Jo Clem, 50, was apparently upset about a recent breakup, according to police. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene included the La Center Police Department, Clark County Fire and Rescue and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

VIDEO: Vehicle rams fire truck in South Carolina

One person was transported from the scene after a car rammed into a fire truck near the Coastal Carolina University campus multiple times Tuesday afternoon, according to officials and witnesses at the scene. Lt. Brian VanAernem with Horry County Fire Rescue said no firefighters were injured in the crash, which happened on Highway 544 and Founders Drive, just outside the university campus.

Extent of Tennessee fire damage comes into grim focus

Flames tore through the Great Smoky Mountains, killing at least three people, scorching hundreds of homes and businesses and sending more than 14,000 fleeing from the resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Tourists and residents scrambled Monday night and early Tuesday to outrun the blaze, which was pushed from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park into the towns by wind gusts of almost 90 mph.
