2016 National Fire Data System Survey - Deadline January 20, 2017

NFPA was recently awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant to develop a national fire data system (NFDS) that meets the priority needs of the U.S. fire service for quality local and national data for both operational and community risk reduction decision making. NFPA’s focus is on helping local agencies in the collection, management and utilization of their data to make decisions where they count most—right in your community.

Police arrest man accused of harassing Ohio firefighters before shooting

The man who Youngstown firefighters say was harassing them on the night their truck was shot up is in jail Thursday evening. Police say Cameron Dyer, 30, was at the fire scene at Halleck and Elm streets Monday night. He was picked up on a probation violation, and police say he could be charged with misconduct at the fire scene.

Russian All-Terrain Vehicle Designed for Ice Rescue

Russia's river warrior vehicle saves those who fall through the ice.


This huge beast of a truck is designed to rescue victims that have fallen through the ice in Russia.

The Snegobolotohod is based at Moscow's Strogino Beach where it is estimated up to 200 people fish on the frozen river for ice every day at this time of the year.

It was described by Alexander Gopov of Moscow's Emergencies Ministry as, "a fully Russian development" that can "easily overcome" obstacles in forests, water and ice.

Driver Hits Mecosta County (MI) Ambulance

Two drivers sustained only minor injuries after a car slid through an intersection and into a Mecosta County ambulance in Big Rapids Township. At 10:31 a.m. on Dec. 8, Mecosta County Sheriff's deputies responded to a crash involving a car and an ambulance at the northbound Perry Street exit on U.S.
At 10:31 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, Mecosta County Sheriff's deputies responded to a crash involving a car and an ambulance at the northbound Perry Street exit on U.S. 131, said Deputy John Bongard.

Police said a 32-year-old Grant woman's vehicle slid through the stop sign at the exit and struck the ambulance, which was traveling east on Perry Street.

The first vehicle slid due to speed and poor weather conditions, police said.

The Grant woman was pinned in her car and had to be extricated by Big Rapids Township Fire Rescue.
