3-year-old hurt in Texas crash overlooked until wreck was towed to junk yard

Officials in West Texas are investigating whether procedures were followed after a 3-year-old girl was found in the back of a smashed vehicle hours after she was injured in a car accident. A tow truck driver found the girl Monday while taking the vehicle to a wrecking yard after the accident in Odessa, KOSA-TV (CBS 7) reported.

FDNY hires nine ex-felons amid effort to boost diversity

In new count, Whatcom EMS is passing by 14 votes out of 106,000

A proposed Whatcom County levy for emergency medical services was passing by a microscopic margin of 14 votes out of over 106,000, in a new tally released Friday. Over the past 1 ½ weeks ballot counts showed the measure failing by over 170 votes – still a slim margin. The gap had closed to five by the middle of this week, and this is the first time the “yes” vote has exceeded the 60 percent threshold needed to pass, with 60.

15 large apartment complexes in Snohomish County missing fire alarms

Nearly a year after a fatal New Year's Eve fire in Everett, a crackdown on fire codes has revealed 15 more apartment buildings without fire alarms. The fire marshal says the worst scenario is learning about a code violation after a major fire, which happened in a Dec. 31, 2015, fire at the Bluffs apartments along West Casino Road.

Kent apartment resident dead after car crashes through wall

A man was struck and killed by a car after it plowed through his Kent apartment while he was lying in bed Saturday night. The crash happened around 6:22 p.m. at an apartment at SE 240th and 109th SE places. When firefighters arrived, they found a small car had crashed through the exterior wall and was halfway inside the apartment.
