Female firefighter crew makes history in Missouri; first woman-led firehouse team in over 150 years

For the first time in 165 years, an all-female fire crew will run a St. Louis Fire Department firehouse. “This has never happened. To have four women on one company,” says Acting Fire Captain, Jessica Jackson. Firefighters Pamela Saunders-Isaac, Licole McKinney, Jessica Jackson, and Elizabeth McCormick make up the historical team of women leading Engine 26 in North City.

An emerging fungal threat spread at an alarming rate in US health care facilities, study says

Clinical cases of Candida auris, an emerging fungus considered an urgent threat, nearly doubled in 2021, according to new data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There was also a tripling of the number of cases resistant to echinocandins, the first-line treatment for Candida auris infections.

Concern over vacant buildings in Seattle following fire

Three fires that ignited overnight Monday into early Tuesday morning all happened in vacant buildings. One was in Auburn, one in Tacoma, and a third in the Rainier Valley neighborhood of Seattle, which has numerous vacant buildings. The building that burned down in the Rainier Valley neighborhood was a vacant 7/11.
