At least one person has died and six people were injured Monday afternoon in a fatal accident near Shively on Cane Run Road. According to MetroSafe, the crash occurred around 1:20 p.m., at the intersection of Cane Run Road and Shanks Lane and involved a Louisville EMS ambulance.
A preliminary investigation determined that the ambulance was traveling north on Cane Run Road when it was struck by an SUV, which was traveling westbound. The SUV rolled over into two vehicles, which were stopped at a red light going southbound.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, Mitchell said. Their identity has not yet been released by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
Mitchell Burmeister, spokesman for Emergency Management Services, said six people were transported to University of Louisville Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Three of the injured were Emergency Management Services employees while another was a patient inside the ambulance.
