The lingering issue of hiring a new paid fire chief in Lake Wylie grew heated at the firehouse Wednesday night with a makeshift public forum.
The five-member Bethel Rural Fire Tax Board set up to oversee spending in the special tax district went behind closed doors to meet with the York County attorney as about 40 people awaited word on whether a new chief would be hired during the board meeting at Station 1 on Oakridge Road.

Volunteer firefighters in Semmes are worried about protecting the community after they say the city locked them out of their stations without warning. They say they now don’t have access to the millions of dollars’ worth of equipment inside.
Former Volunteer Fire Chief Mickey Dearmon, along with several volunteer firefighters and council members, gathered outside the volunteer station on Wulff Rd.

For the past two years the City of Walla Walla ambulance service is transporting an average of 250 patients for Fire District 4.But since the fire district has just purchased a new ambulance unit, this is expected to cut the city's services by half.
The new ambulance will be for emergency calls of patients needing basic life support.

If you live in Spokane and you need to go to the hospital, they will take you. American Medical Response, or AMR, handles 45,000 calls in the Spokane area each year, according to their website. The company maintains that on average they get to calls for help faster than they are required to.
Data obtained by 2 On Your Side revealed, AMR continues to pay the City of Spokane tens of thousands of dollars in fines, or liquidated damages, for arriving late to calls.
