The FDNY is firing up a controversial “cadet” program aimed at giving minorities a fast track to becoming firefighters, The Post has learned. The department plans to recruit up to 100 men and women ages 20 to 27 citywide. The cadets would work in paid internships up to 20 hours a week while getting fitness training, taking educational courses, and learning from mentors.

It’s been three years in the making, and Asotin County Fire District 1 is one step closer to getting a new station. They just received a Community Development Grant from the State of Washington for $750,000. Chief Noel Hardin says the community has grown…they have out grown the station. Their current building is outdated and they have had to add on extra buildings to accommodate for their growth.

The family who adopted a baby abandoned at a Yakima fire station on Christmas Eve stopped by the station this weekend to catch up with the firefighter who first found the baby. The baby, now dubbed Evie, was found outside Fire Station 92 around 6 a.m. on December 24th, 2015. She had been wrapped in towels and left in a cardboard apple box, and doctors said that she might not have survived if firefighter JoAnna Albrecht hadn't heard her crying outside.
