The Mukilteo Fire Department has welcomed a new firefighter. Jacob Taylor, of Lake Stevens, was sworn in as an officer by Mayor Jennifer Gregerson on Sept. 6. He was hired by Fire Chief Chris Alexander. Taylor was most recently a volunteer and then part-time firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Snohomish County Fire District 4, for which he served three years.

Candidates must be nominated by a fellow firefighter or departmental peer. “The FDIC scholarship program, sponsored annually by Honeywell First Responder, provides firefighters with life-saving tools and training that they can take back to their communities,” says Bobby Halton, FDIC International Education Director. “Thanks to Honeywell’s and DuPont’s generosity, dozens of talented and dedicated firefighters have had the opportunity to expand their circle of brothers and sisters and to impact their departments’ ability to save lives and protect firefighters.”

FDIC International is the largest and most important North American firefighter training event and tradeshow in the fire service industry with more than 32,000 attending the 2016 event. Hosted every year in Indianapolis, Indiana, the FDIC International 2017 event will take place April 24-29.

The scholarship is available to residents of the United States and Canada only, and career and volunteer firefighters, EMS, and hazmat personnel are eligible. Examples for consideration: extensive or superior work in his/her role within the fire department; distinguished leadership; remarkable devotion to the community or crisis management; helping up-and-coming members of the firefighting profession; and a history of attending training seminars/classes and implementing best practices from his/her training that benefit the department.

Holden, LA—The City and County of San Francisco, California, has awarded Ferrara Fire Apparatus a contract for five years to build triple combination pumpers. The pumpers will be built on the Igniter chassis and will carry 500 gallons of water.
