A North Belle Vernon firefighter died two days after he sustained serious injuries enroute to call. Charles E. Horan, 61, was preparing to leave his home to assist law enforcement access the roof of a building when he tripped and fell just before 11 a.m. on Sept. 19. Horan was transported to the hospital.

After experimenting with individual bedrooms, the Hutchinson Fire Department is returning to what works best for it with a new fire station at the intersection of Avenue E and Walnut Street. The new Fire Station No. 3 will have bunk rooms, with beds for multiple firefighters. Deputy Chief Doug Hanen said Tuesday that the department has found bunk rooms for multiple firefighters help team cohesion.

Detroit firefighters stopped their firetruck at a car wash to support a locally owned business. Top officials with the city of Houston said the Fire Department needs a major shakeup on addressing hazardous materials. A Houston Chronicle investigation reported Sunday the city doesn't know where most dangerous chemicals are, hasn't inspected more than three-quarters of the ones it does know about, and is still relying on paper records despite a sophisticated database.

Two emergency responders were evaluated at the hospital Wednesday evening after responding to a suicide attempt at a Longview apartment. Longview Fire Engine 81 was called out to 1705 Hemlock Street about 4:40 p.m. on reports that someone had been posting suicidal messages on Facebook. The person who called 9-1-1 said they managed to get ahold of the person by cell phone, but they sounded unintelligible.
