Firefighter Injured after Fire Truck Flips in AR

(Via KARK) Highway 9 is an ordinary Arkansas country road. It has turn after turn but Sunday morning a Choctaw firefighter took a turn for the worse on the state highway. "My heart just sunk," says Choctaw Fire Chief Lamar Harvey.
A Choctaw (AR) firefighter was injured in an accident involving a fire apparatus Sunday morning, according to a news report.

Choctaw Fire Chief Lamar Harvey says a volunteer firefighter was en route to a house fire when he lost control, rolled over multiple times, and crashed into a creek. The firefighter was transported to a hospital with only cuts and bruises.

Department Brings Out Pink Fire Truck for Cancer Awareness

Raising money to fight cancer. That's the goal of the Old National Car Show Monday night in Granger.
The Clay Fire Department rolled out a pink fire apparatus during a recent car show in Granger, Indiana, to raise cancer awareness.

"They have went through so much that other people can't even imagine. We're here to honor them and help support those folks that are going through those fights,” said Dave Cherrone.

Brazilian Olympic Hero Takes Victory Lap in Rig

Rafaela Silva received a hero's welcome on Monday in the Cidade de Deus favela in Rio de Janeiro Onlookers were photographed waving and cheering for the Olympian, who grew up in the notorious slum Silva earned Brazil's first gold medal of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics The 24-year-old won the 57-kg division of the Japanese martial art on August 8 Brazilian judo gold medalist Rafaela Silva was given a hero's welcome as she rode a fire truck into the infamous Cidade de Deus, or City of God, favela in Rio de Janeiro on Monday.

Belmont (NH) Fire Chiefs Select New Fire Truck

BELMONT-Fire Chief Ken Erickson addressed the Board of Selectmen on Monday and issued his recommendation on which company to go with for the lease-purchase of a new fire engine pumper truck.
Belmont (NH) firefighters have settled on a new fire apparatus, and chiefs briefed local politicans on the decision recently.

Fire Chief Ken Erickson recommended that selectmen accept a bid from Pierce Manufacturing Corp. in the amount of $530,950. Erickson reportedly made the recommendation based on a number of factors including better warranty coverage and trade-in value for the old fire truck, as well as a better prepay discount.

The Pierce fire truck consists of a stainless steel cab chassis and multiplex wiring.  There is a 10-year non-prorated paint warranty on the cab valued at $6,700.  There is a 12-year paint warranty on the body of the engine that is non-prorated.

City refuses workers comp to New York firefighter who had heart attack after fighting fire, union says

The Syracuse firefighters union says the city is refusing benefits to a firefighter who had a heart attack after battling a blaze. Firefighter Bill Adsitt was denied a disability claim regarding a quadruple bypass surgery he had earlier this year. A doctor hired by the city determined the bypass an "elective procedure.
