Arsonist destroys building at Vancouver construction site, fire investigators say

Investigators say the fire that destroyed a building at an apartment construction site early Wednesday morning was arson. Firefighters were called out around 3 a.m. to put out a fire at an apartment complex being built at 4555 Northeast 66th Avenue. No one was hurt in the fire. Crews arrived at the scene to find one of the apartment buildings engulfed in flames.

Three Firefighters Critical; One Nearly Loses Arm in Apparatus Accident

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A four-alarm fire broke out in the Wakefield section of the Bronx Tuesday afternoon. The fire started at a residence on E 235 Street and has spread to several connecting homes. Firefighter Sean O’Rourke, 44, with 14 years on the job, had an arm detached in a truck accident at Westchester Avenue and Waters Place. O’Rourke was driving a truck from Queens to provide backup aid for the fire.

His left arm was nearly torn off as the truck hit the pole. Surgeonsoperated for long hours Tuesday night trying to save O’Rourke’s arm.

“To have a member come in – when I saw his arm and shoulder – it was very upsetting,” FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard said. “We deal with a lot of tough things, but it was a tough day for the Fire Department.”

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue again without a leader as interim chief resigns

A former chief who took the helm of Central Pierce Fire & Rescue while the district searched for a permanent replacement has retired a second time, leaving the fourth-largest department in the state without a chief. Jack Andren was brought back in September 2015 to replace Chief Kenneth Wright, who abruptly stepped down for fear the board of commissioners would oust him.

Central Tacoma house fire kills dog but 3 people escape

A dog was killed in a Central Tacoma house fire Tuesday. Brett Bastian named new Moses Lake Fire Department chief

Brett Bastian is the new chief for the Moses Lake Fire Department. Bastian has served as acting fire chief since November of 2015 after former Chief Tom Taylor retired. “During this time-period, Chief Bastian has successfully guided the department through a period of significant operational and organizational growth and transparency in leadership,” City Manage John Williams stated.
