Good American Hose Company (PA) Christens New Fire Apparatus

The Good American Hose Company No. 3, Mahanoy City, dedicated its 2016 Rosenbauer pumper tanker, Tanker 461, during ceremonies Saturday afternoon. The new Tanker 461 replaces a 1987 KME tanker pumper that served the company for 29 years before being sold several months ago.
Tanker 461 is equipped with a 2,500-gallon water tank, a portable dam and state-of-the-art lighting, communications and pumping equipment.

Tony Ashman, company president, opened the ceremonies saying the new vehicle was the result of hard work of company members, lovingly called "The Dutchies."

Ashman said that although a large portion of the cost of the new tanker pumper was made possible through an Assistance to Firefighters Grant through the Department of Homeland Security, the company has taken the responsibility of the remaining expense.

Also speaking were U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright, state Sen. David G. Argall, R-29, and state Rep. Neal P. Goodman.

Commenting on the gold and black colors of the new vehicle, Cartwright said, "It's a happy day in Mahanoy City ... it's a happy day for everyone who's a Golden Bear."

The vehicle color scheme was selected in the colors of the Mahanoy Area School District's Golden Bears -- black and gold.

He also commended the volunteer firefighters, not only from the Good American Hose Company but volunteers across the country.

VIDEO: Bizarre Police Incident in Coquitlam Captures Suspect Vehicle Rolling Into Fire Apparatus

Coquitlam RCMP and Fire and Rescue were on scene Friday to deal with a shooting that turned into a fiery multi-scene incident. Just before 6 p.m., police responded after reports came in about shots being fired from one vehicle to another around Guildford Drive and Johnston Street.
Shortly after, police found the suspect vehicle fully engulfed in flames on Charter Hill Road. Coquitlam Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene, but before the fire could be put out, the engulfed truck rolled down a hill and crashed into a fire truck.

A video shows the dramatic moment authorities ran from the flames in fear the fire truck would catch fire.

RCMP are now investigating the three locations. There is currently no one in custody and no suspect description available.

New Cowiche Fire Station Could Play Crucial Emergency Role

The newly opened fire station in Cowiche isn't just an upgrade for Yakima County Fire District 1. It also could play a critical role in the county's response to emergencies.

Washington state recommends that counties have a backup emergency operations center, but Yakima didn't have the money for one, said Scott Miller, director of the county's Office of Emergency Management. o when the new station was approved in Cowiche and Fire District 1 administrator Bob Merritt approached with an idea to house a backup center there, Miller jumped at it.

“It took me about a millisecond,” Miller said. “Especially when he said ‘rent-free.’”

The station, which opened in May at 300 Cowiche City Road, will mostly function as the old Fire District 1 station in Cowiche functioned — as a frequently vacant volunteer-run fire station in rural Upper Yakima Valley. But in the event of a significant emergency such as a flood or widespread fire, it could spring to life as an operations and communications base for county Emergency Management.

A report from the Yakima Herald took a closer look at the new fire station in Cowiche, an unincorporated community northwest of Yakima, Washington.

Vicksburg (MI) Looks to Build New Fire Station

Vicksburg officials have begun negotiations with a local company to build a new fire station on the east end of town.

The Vicksburg Post reported the Board of Mayor and Aldermen have authorized city attorney Nancy Thomas to begin talks with Fordice Construction Co., which had the low base bid of $1.5 million.

It and one other company submitted bids higher than the $1.1 million budgeted for the project.

Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said the board would shift money from other projects in the city's $9.2 million capital improvements bond issue to make up the difference.

WAPT looked at the potential development of a new fire station in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
