Charges Pending in Snake River Fire

It will be at least a week until officials file charges against three individuals who allegedly built a campfire in the area where the Snake River Fire later erupted. Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers said the individuals will not be identified until charges are filed. No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed, he said, but he believes the three men in their 20s may be charged with reckless burning or a similar offense.

Blazing trails: Female firefighters in the Yakima Valley

When Lindsay Figueroa was 4 years old, the dryer caught fire. She remembers standing outside and staring up at the big red truck that responded. “It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen,” said Figueroa, now 31. These days, the big red (and pale green) trucks still thrill Figueroa, a member of the West Valley Fire Department for six years.

Medical Lake brush fire presented unique challenges to firefighters

Firefighters fought more than flames during the wildfire out in Medical Lake Saturday. That fire burned 35 acres off of Hallett Road, destroying four outbuildings and nearly two dozen cars. Mike Moravec was the incident commander on the fire from Spokane County Fire District 3. He says this one posed some unique challenges.

Cost for Franklin County, Pasco to join dispatch center: $500,000

The dream of merging Franklin County’s emergency dispatch operations into Benton County’s Southeast Communications Center (SECOMM) is nearing reality after more than 10 years of discussions. Franklin County and the city of Pasco would each make a one-time $500,000 capital contribution to join SECOMM as full voting partners, under a plan presented to the Benton County Emergency Services board recently by Steve Reinke, a Thorp-based expert in 911 dispatch operations.
