The San Antonio Fire Department is working on a project with a local boy named Damon Billeck. Damon is 12 and suffers from bone cancer. He is currently receiving treatment for his cancer in Houston, and while there he saw that they have a ship's bell that children get to ring in celebration of receiving a "clean scan" on their blood work, showing they are cancer free. Damon wanted to bring that type of inspiration to children going through treatment here at University Hospital.
The San Antonio Fire Museum donated a chromed, antique bell from one of the trucks the museum downtown. And Firefighters from Station #11 "B" shift have volunteered to build a custom stand for the bell. Fire Chief Charles Hood was on "Fox News Midday" to talk about the project.
Damon and his family have created a GoFundMe page for the project to help pay for materials for the stand. If you'd like to donate, click here.
