One person is dead and evacuations are under way in Central Washington after a fiery crash between a car and a tanker truck unleashed a dangerous toxic chemical leak, the Washington State Patrol reports. A 22-mile stretch of Interstate 90 is closed in both directions near the scene.
Residents up to a mile away from the crash scene were warned to close their windows and turn off the air-conditioning for protection from the fumes.

Firefighters expect to have the Range 12 Fire that was moving toward the Hanford nuclear reservation contained by Thursday.
Wednesday it was 60 percent contained, up from 20 percent Tuesday.
Crews were starting to be released from the fire Wednesday after they kept the fire perimeter intact during a red flag weather warning issued Tuesday because of winds and low humidity.

About 25 Lynnwood residents ran for their lives early Wednesday as a fast-spreading fire raged through an apartment complex. One dad said he got his daughters out of the building only seconds before the intense heat of the fire blew out the windows.
Firefighters responded to the scene, the Westwood Apartments at 176th Street and 52nd Avenue West, at about 3:15 a.

One home was lost Tuesday and multiple outbuildings may have been lost as well, said Trooper Jeff Sevigney, spokesman for the fire crews. Early reports from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office stated that multiple structures were lost in the Road 10 fire.
“With the fire behavior we saw yesterday it’s really a testament to the crews; they should have lost a lot more,” Sevigney said Wednesday morning.
