1 under arrest after motorhome destroyed by fire in Lynnwood

One person is under arrest after a motorhome went up in flames overnight in Lynnwood, fire officials said. Police and fire crews responded to the scene, near 159th Place Southwest and Admiralty Way, at about 3 a.m. Thursday after receiving initial calls about explosions in the area. When firefighters arrived, they found a RV fully engulfed in flames on a dead end street.

City leaders voice concerns over oil trains in Spokane

Local leaders gathered on Wednesday night to voice their concerns over oil trains passing through Spokane. City officials have met to discuss oil trains in the past, but Wednesday’s meeting welcomed the voices of local emergency responders. Among them was the head of the local fire union who said that he and his fellow responders would be totally unprepared for an oil train disaster.

New York fire chief receives national heroism award

An Irvington fire chief who stopped a man's vicious knife attack on his girlfriend last April has received national recognition for his heroism. Christopher T. DePaoli is one of 23 recipients of a medal for heroism from the Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. DePaoli was with his two daughters near the Irvington train platform when he saw a man repeatedly stab a woman in the back and near area.
