New Hampshire fire union contract lacks OT concessions

The debate about how much overtime city firefighters receive will continue, even though the City Council voted to approve a new contract for the fire union. City Councilor Brad Lown, who cast the lone vote against the new contract, said this week he did so because of what he believes is excessive overtime paid to city firefighters.

13-year old boy dies after jumping into Little Mashel Falls near Eatonville

A teenage boy has died after falling into "deep water" near the town of Eatonville in Pierce County. Orting Valley Fire and Rescue crews, South Pierce Fire and Rescue and the Pierce County Sheriff's Office all responded Sunday evening to a report of a water rescue at Little Mashel Falls. The 911 caller told dispatchers that a 13-year old boy jumped into the water and did not come back up, according to Pierce County Sheriff Sgt.

Man causes Rock Island Grade blaze after burning sleeping bag

A Wenatchee man admitted to causing a fire near Rock Island last night that burned about 150 acres after throwing a sleeping bag into a small fire, according to Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal. Gjesdal said 61-year-old Timothy Burt had been living about a mile up Rock Island Grade off of Highway 28 near milepost 12.

New commissioner joins Bainbridge fire board

Ernst “Fritz” von Ibsch has been appointed to fill a seat on the board of fire commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department. The board selected von Ibsch from a narrowed field of three candidates at their last meeting in May. The new commissioner was sworn into office on June 9. Five people originally applied for the Position 4 seat, which was left vacant after Eileen McSherry resigned in late March because of longer days and more unpredictable workloads at her current job.

Family escapes early morning house fire in Pasco

The Pasco Fire Department says a family escaped a house fire early Friday morning. Firefighters say flames broke out just after 1 a.m. at the home at 401 W. Bonneville St. They say the fire started in one room and spread. The family made it out of the home safely. Crews say some family members suffered minor burns.
