Body found outside burning home in Elma; homicide suspected

Deputies responding to a report of gunshots and a house fire in Elma found a body outside the burning home, and now sheriff's officials say they believe it was a homicide. Another body may be inside the home, officials said. Meanwhile, a neighbor says it sounded like a gun battle erupted at the house before the fire.

East Valley fire chief retirement now official

Mike Riel launched what would become a 35-year firefighting career as an East Valley volunteer, serving the same area where he grew up on a hop ranch. Everett woman recounts 911 dispatch problems: 'people are going to die'

Recordings just obtained by KOMO News detail ongoing failures in Snohomish County's 911 response system. One call for help back on March 18 escalated into a lengthy delay. Debra Teal was driving with her 6-year-old son Gage when she was rear-ended while turning onto 132nd St SE in Everett. Her son hurt his head, so she pulled into a Walgreens parking lot to wait for police and medics.
