Meet the First Female Chief Fire Officer in Miami

She's in charge of five fire stations in the north end of Miami and also oversees the Miami Fire-Rescue's dive team and technical rescue team. But Melissa Llera is even more than that at Miami Fire-Rescue, she's the department's first female chief fire officer. "I spent time as a fire fighter and as a lieutenant and as a captain before getting to the rank of chief," Chief Fire Officer Llera said.

Rise in deadly crashes could prompt law changes

The number of deadly crashes in Washington is up. Way up. State agency heads hope the figures will prompt new laws aimed at making roads safer. Crews fight second alarm fire east of Terrace Heights

Firefighters are working to put out a second alarm fire east of Terrace Heights. According to Public Information Officer Rick Woodall, the fire is around 70 acres in size, but is currently contained. Woodall said no one was injured in the fire, but two properties were threatened. Units from several fires stations, including Highland, Yakima, West Valley, Selah Training Center and Naches Heights responded to the fire, Woodall said.
