Spokane house fire causes $50,000 damage

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged an Avalanche Court home Monday night and displaced its occupants. Firefighters responding to the 7:10 p.m. call at 7309 Avalanche Court found flames coming from a back corner of the house, Shift Commander Tom Schneider said. Flames had started to spread inside, but Schneider said firefighters were able to stop the fire.

EMS Week: Spokane fire volunteer saved by own station

Frank Volz has volunteered at Spokane Fire District 4 for over 30 years. One day it all paid off. This week marks the beginning of 42nd- annual Emergency Medical Service (EMS) week in Spokane County. It lasts until Saturday. At Spokane Fire District 4, medical emergencies average 77 percent of calls there.

Woman escapes Port Orchard mobile home fire; investigators say it could be arson

A mobile home was destroyed by fire early Monday morning on the 4400 block of Eastway Drive Southeast in Port Orchard. Investigators believe arson could be the cause. A woman inside the home escaped injury when the Kitsap County home burst into flames. Police said the 38-year-old house sitter smelled smoke around 1:30 in the morning.
