Fire marshal: Deadly La Center fire started in kitchen

A fire at a La Center house that claimed the life of an adult last week originated in the kitchen, according to the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office. Investigators say that one of the electric stove burners at the mobile home, 1505 N.W. 379th St. in La Center, was turned on at the time of the fire.

Marysville Fire Marshal earns CFO certification

Deputy Fire Chief and Marysville Fire Marshal Tom Maloney recently earned his Chief Fire Officer certificate from the Commission on Professional Credentialing. Maloney is the first person in the department to receive the certificate, and only one of 1,113 Chief Fire Officers worldwide. The certification process took nearly two years, and included an assessment of his education, experience, professional development, technical competencies, contribution to the profession and community involvement "Tom's focus on continued professional development sets a great example for our department," said Fire Chief Martin McFalls.

Neighbors help neighbors escape Auburn apartment fire

Several families are out of their homes after an apartment complex fire early Tuesday morning. Valley Regional firefighters say the fire started in an upstairs apartment on the 3700 block of D Place Southeast. The flames then moved up into the attic. Neighbors went door-to-door waking people up to get them out safely, according to firefighters.
