A look back: Photos of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, its aftermath

On April 15, 2013, Dzhokar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev walked to a crowded area near the finish line of the Boston Marathon with backpacks containing homemade pressure-cooker shrapnel bombs filled with BBs and nails. The two brothers separated, each finding a spot packed with spectators to place their bombs.

Indiana fire department recovering after tornado

VIDEO: The EF3 tornado in Whiteland didn't just damage homes and businesses. It also made a direct hit on public safety, tearing through the community's fire station, causing serious damage. "It picked up all kinds of debris. It ripped the roof off the front side," said Whiteland Fire Chief Eric Funkhouser.

Injured Kentucky officer, former firefighter 'ran towards the gunfire' to save lives during mass shooting

VIDEO: Louisville Metro Police Officer Nickolas Wilt had been with the department less than two weeks before a mass shooter opened fire at a downtown bank Monday morning. He "ran towards the fire" to "save lives", and was shot in the head in the process, police said. Five victims were killed and several others -- including Wilt -- were injured in the shooting at Old National Bank.

Texas fire-rescue implements new measures to improve mental health among firefighters

VIDEO: A firefighter's shift is unpredictable. After calls, they can physically clean off debris. But the things they see can often leave a mental stain. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, six Dallas firefighters have attempted suicide since 2018. Four of them died. In their honor, the department and union are pushing for improved mental health resources.

'I'm not retiring, I'm changing jobs;' Pasco Fire Chief reflects on nearly 50-year long career

Getting fired at 19 years old might've been the best thing for Bob Gear's career. "They said you're getting laid off after Labor Day, yeah, no you're done, you need to go find another job. Yeah, you need to go find another job something that's gonna have a career," Gear laughed. It was 1974, Gear had grown up on the west side of Washington in a family filled with construction and logging work, who he worked for.
