N. Spokane fire caused by dirty rags

A fire was caused by paper towels saturated with oil-based stain and rags disposed of in a large recycling bin in N. Spokane on Friday evening. Multiple evening commuters reported seeing smoke near N Whitehouse St. and W Wabash Ave. Firefighters found a large recycling bin fully involved with fire.

Authorities: Fire at Vancouver LDS church intentionally set

Authorities say they believe a fire at a church in Vancouver was intentionally set. Firefighters responded to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Friday morning after men arriving for a basketball game found the pulpit on fire. The Columbian reports crews arrived from a fire station around the corner from the church and were able to quickly put out the flames.

More 911 calls with less staff in Enumclaw

Connie Johnson says her close call happened two weeks ago. Trees behind her home caught fire. “The flames were shooting as high as the shop roof,” Johnson said. “It was very scary.” She says what made it worse was it took Enumclaw firefighters 20 minutes to respond. Chief Randy Fehr of King County Fire District 28 says response times have been a problem.
