2-alarm fire damages Edmonds school

Classes have been cancelled Monday for students at Madrona School in Edmonds after a two-alarm fire that heavily damaged a portion of the school, causing more than $250,000 in damage. Firefighters said the fire appears to have started in the K-8 school's faculty lounge at around 8 p.m. Sunday. An automatic fire alarm alerted firefighters to the fire, investigators said.

Newborn found in dumpster in Everett will survive

A newborn baby found alive in an Everett dumpster is stable and expected to survive, according to Providence Hospital officials. It's great news for the woman who saved the child's life Friday night. “She climbed inside and just started throwing out bags and garbage and junk,” explained Jeff Meyers.

South Whidbey volunteer firefighters, EMTs honored at awards banquet

South Whidbey Fire/EMS volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians were honored Saturday at the district’s annual awards dinner. Held at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, the evening recognized more than 10 first responders who serve the fire protection district. The Carl Simmons Officers Choice Award was presented to Jim Towers by Commissioner Kenon Simmons.
