Antioch Gets New Fire Engine for Station 81

On Wednesday, Contra Costa County Fire welcomed a new engine that was placed in Station 81 in Antioch. During a brief Housing Ceremony, firefighters honored tradition by pushing the new engine into the station.

ire Chief Jeff Carman said the new engine was just one of as many as 15 apparatuses they hope to place in the District this year thanks to the support of the Board of Supervisor.

“I like that we have a plan in place in the District to make sure that in the future that we will not run into the problems we have had with equipment and our firefighters will now be using state of the art equipment,” said Carman. “I appreciate the pride and tradition of our firefighters in Contra Costa County. Fire Captain Mike Quesada explained the housing ceremony tradition which dates back to the date of housing old engines which were pushed into stations because they couldn’t back up horses. The tradition stuck.

Honeywell Completes Acquisition of Xtralis

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced that it has completed its acquisition of Xtralis, a leading global provider of aspirating smoke detection, advanced perimeter security technologies, and video analytics software for $480 million.

“The acquisition of Xtralis is a good strategic fit to our current fire detection portfolio and will bring unique capabilities and customer solutions in remote visual verification of fire and intrusion risks, advanced perimeter security technologies, and video analytics software,” said David Paja, president, Honeywell Security and Fire. “This acquisition helps us expand our Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) business and will help enable strong growth in the coming years.”

Xtralis aspirating smoke detection solutions protect many Fortune 500 companies, iconic sites, and critical infrastructures worldwide to provide very early warning and verification of threats to speed response time and minimize facility damages and potential injuries.

The company will be integrated into Honeywell’s Automation and Control Solution strategic business group.

Starting tomorrow, the local flight provider will have a new name. That’s because Northwest MedStar and Life Flight Network are merging, effective tomorrow. While Northwest MedStar serves the Yakima Valley, Life Flight Network is an Oregon-based not-for-profit serving the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West.

Attempt to put out grease fire in Olympia goes badly, spreads to rest of apartment

An effort to extinguish a stove top fire in a pan didn’t go as planned after the fire spread and damaged an apartment, according to the Olympia Fire Department. About 6 p.m. Thursday, Olympia fire crews, with support from Lacey Fire District 3, responded to a fire in the 3800 block of 22nd Avenue Southeast in Olympia.
