Burton's fire department is auctioning off its 1969 GMC brush truck. While the truck has a lot of history in the community -- not only has it made decades of parade appearances, but it was built in Flint with the tank hand-built by firefighters and the lettering hand-done - the department now feels it is financially irresponsible of them to keep it, the report says.
The truck, which was purchased brand new for Burton Fire Station 2 to fight brush and grass fires was replaced with a new GMC with a larger tank that will be easier to maintain.
