Firefighters douse blaze at unoccupied Hockinson house

Firefighters spent hours on the scene of a fire that spread into two stories of an unoccupied home in Hockinson. Crews from Clark County Fire District 3 were called to 16710 N.E. 182nd Ave. just after 3 p.m. Saturday for a report of a chimney fire, Battalion Chief Jeff Stewart said. Arriving crews found that there was fire in the wall and worked to find the source and its extension, staying on scene for about two hours, Stewart said.

Audit questions state payment to wealthy landowner

The Washington State Auditor's Office is raising questions about a $1.8 million payment the Department of Natural Resources made to a landowner following the devastating 2014 wildfire season. "We found the department did not follow its own policy" auditors concluded after reviewing DNR's payment to Gebbers Farms in Okanogan County.
