Kent firefighters extinguished an apartment fire late Thursday morning in the 1600 block of Maple Lane. Four people were displaced by the fire, called in by one of the apartment residents at about 11:33 a.m. Paramedics transported one person to a local hospital to be treated for exposure to smoke and minor burns, according to the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority.

The Department of Natural Resources is recruiting women to become wildland firefighters. DNR officials say the profession is no longer dominated by men.
