Uncertainty persists as Snohomish Co. Fire District 1 union rejects latest contract offer

Despite an agreement hammered out over the past 18 months by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1828 and the Board of Commissioners of Snohomish County Fire District 1, the union membership voted last week to reject the proposed contract. The prospect of an additional potentially-protracted delay in arriving at a new agreement means jurisdictions that contract with Fire District 1 for fire and related services are faced with heightened uncertainty about how to plan for and ultimately pay for these.

Arson investigations underway after two more fires in Auburn

Police are investigating two fires within 15 minutes of each other in the same neighborhood hit hard by a string of unsolved arsons last year. Officials say a 12-foot boat was set on fire around 1 a.m. in the 3500 block of I St. NE and crews were able to quickly put that out. Less than a mile away, firefighters were called to the 1200 block of 43rd St NE where a house was ablaze.
