Arsonist targets military families at NAS Whidbey Island

An arsonist is fixating on Whidbey Island -- and military families have become its victims. Now the Navy is investigating a string of arson fires outside NAS Whidbey Island. The latest fire happened Dec. 26. It started in a trash bin and spread to an apartment building. “You don't realize how much you had until it's all gone," said Airman Ryan Sharland.

Central Kitsap firefighters stage training in Silverdale

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters Tuesday used the vacant Silverdale Community Center as a training ground. No live fire training was allowed at the aging facility due to safety considerations, but firefighters were able to "work on moving hose and keeping themselves oriented while tracking their air supply and planning their safe exit," Brett Twomey, chief of training and safety, said in a news release.
