Beachfront cabin burns in Hansville

A small cabin on the water in a hard-to-reach parcel near Hansville burned early Monday, according to North Kitsap Fire and Rescue. Crews responded to the fire at the 40200 block of Foulweather Bluff Road NE around 5 a.m., NKFR spokeswoman Michele Laboda said. Firefighters had a hard time accessing the cabin so NKFR's new fire boat was brought in from Kingston to fight the blaze while responders on the ground made their way to the scene, which involved a roughly three-quarter-mile beach walk.

Edmonds continues to live with uncertainty as firefighters union rejects latest contract offer

Despite an agreement hammered out over the past 18 months by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1828 and the Board of Commissioners of Snohomish County Fire District 1, the union membership voted last week to reject the proposed contract. The prospect of an additional potentially-protracted delay in arriving at a new agreement means that jurisdictions that contract with Fire District 1 for fire and related services are faced with heightened uncertainty about how to plan for and ultimately pay for these.

Tasmania Department has Second Theft of Fire Equipment

Tasmania Fire Service equipment has been stolen while crews were fighting a fire in Mowbray.

A standpipe and hose were stolen from Dover Street, Mowbray, while crews attended to a grass fire at about 2:30pm.

"The thefts of the standpipe and hose hindered fire crew's attempts to control the grass fire on a day of challenging conditions," police said.

A spokesperson from the crew based out of Rocherlea Fire Station said this was the second theft of similar equipment in the area in a fortnight.

A witness reported seeing three youths running from the area with the stolen equipment.

Police appealed to the public for help identifying the thieves and locating the equipment.

Any information could be passed onto Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
