Passage of the $4.9 million bond measure Nov. 3 allowing South Kitsap Fire and Rescue to update its fleet of emergency vehicles allowed Fire Chief Steve Wright a bit of a breather.
Its approval by 70.7 percent of fire district registered voters was a pleasant surprise, Wright said.
“I’m surprised by the percentage approval rate,” he said.

Lewis County Fire District 11 voters in Pe Ell voted to approve a levy increase in the Nov. 3 general election to finance the purchase of a replacement for its oldest fire engine, which was new in 1973.
Preliminary results show 168 voters, or 66.14 percent of ballots casts, were in favor of the measure as of Wednesday afternoon.

Jesse Daniel Clingenpeel always wanted to be a soldier. He dressed in camouflage every Halloween and imitated his father’s buzz cut as a child.
