A small fire damaged a Bellingham duplex Monday afternoon, Nov. 2, in the Roosevelt neighborhood.
Neighbors of the Hillside Homes — a city housing authority development — called 911 about 2:20 p.m. to report smoke and flames coming from the first floor at 2166 Hillside Lane, off Yew Street.
Firefighters from Station 4, around the corner, arrived moments later to find one of the windows had broken open from the heat.

Parker Ewing was asleep in bed when he felt heat on his face. He opened his eyes and saw black smoke.
"I tried to get under it but I was inhaling more and more black smoke," the 15-year-old recalled of when his family's Federal Way home burned in a fire on Friday morning.
Parker managed to crawl out the front door, across the porch and down the front steps.

Banks District Volunteer Fire Department announced the passing of their Fire Chief Gary Bonnett, who passed away early Thursday morning after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Chief Bonnett was a fire chief who was highly respected by his peers and everyone in and connected to the fire service throughout West Virginia.
