Spokane: Churches at odds with Fire Department over housing at risk families

Family Promise of Spokane uses 12 local churches to house several families at night, rotating them from church to church each week. The problem is that most of those churches aren't set up to house people and don't meet the current fire code. "We have an unblemished record of not only success but also safety," said Ron Hardin, board president of the Family Promise of Spokane.

Hurst Jaws of Life, Inc., StrongArm™ is a versatile, multipurpose tool that fills a critical need for fire, technical rescue, FEMA, and urban search and rescue (USAR) task forces. With a built-in Picatinny accessory rail and a four-position handle, StrongArm cuts, lifts, and spreads.

It replaces crowbars, halligan bars, wire cutters, axes, and more. More specifically, it can cut through 3⁄8-inch rebar, grade 43 chain, and 2x4 wood and is in protection class IP54. StrongArm is also suited for getting under collapsed roofs and breaching walls. The compact, portable design makes it easy to carry and allows it to fit into tight spaces, making it lightweight without compromising power or strength. www.jawsoflife.com, 800-537-2659

Code 3®, Inc., LED Scene Lights provide scene lighting with far less amperage than halogen lights at a cost-effective price. These scene lights provide focused perimeter lighting without the need for angled bezels, with light that angles down from eight to 32 degrees from a horizontal position.

The LED Scene Lights are "instant-on"-no warm-up time required. The LED Scene Lights come in three sizes, 3 x 7, 4 x 6, and 7 x 9 inches, all with a chrome bezel, and are surface-mounted with white LEDs using industry-standard mounting and dimensions. The scene lights feature a five-year warranty on the LED modules and are rated for use in NFPA 1901 or GSA K-Spec compliant packages. The LED Scene Lights are 12 to 24 volts. www.code3esg.com, 314-426-2700

Zico QUIC-MOUNT Premixed Can & Bar Holder, Model QM-PMH-CB, secures both a cylindrical can up to 32 ounces (33⁄8 inches in diameter) and a standard quart container, allowing users to safely store premix fuel and bar/chain oil together.

Holmatro 5000 series cutters offer weight reduction and improved ergonomics while maintaining an optimal cutting performance on modern cars. Much lighter than the previous generation, the 5000 series cutters significantly reduce the physical burden on the operator.

This burden is even further reduced by one model, the Inclined Cutter. Designed for more ergonomic cutting high and low on the car, the CU 5050 i cutter, with its inclined jaw, eliminates the need to lift the tool high up for a roof cut or to bend over deeply to cut the rocker panel. Both models are also available with Greenline battery technology for increased freedom of movement. www.holmatro.com, 410-768-9662
