Homes near Lucerne evacuated for wildfire

A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for some residents near the Wolverine Creek Fire, which is moving toward Lucerne. The Level 3 evacuation notices went out Thursday to Lightning and Riddle Creek cabin owners. A Level 3 evacuation will go into effect Saturday in Holden Village and Lucerne. The U.

Seven escape Yakima house fire thanks to a passerby

A Yakima family is safe after an early morning house fire Friday. Crews were called to the home on the 400 block of North Fifth Avenue around 3:30 a.m. When the arrived, the attic was on fire and began to burn through to the side of the house. A passerby saw the fire and banged on the door of the house.

Bellevue Fire Department receives first new rig in 15 years

Bellevue firefighters gathered early Thursday morning for a "pushing in" ceremony for the department's first new firetruck in 15 years. "The 'pushing in' ceremony provides an opportunity for all of the crews that work on the ladder trucks and those that helped with the design and creating the specifications to welcome her into the department," said department spokesman Lt.

Fire destroys house west of Port Angeles

A spectacular fire destroyed a home west of Port Angeles and threatened to burn another house and cause a wildfire. Just before five last evening, Clallam Fire District Two was called to 21 Whispering Firs Road off Lower Elwha Road, where a two story single family home was fully engulfed in flames. The next door neighbor’s home and vehicle were in immediate jeopardy of catching fire.
