When severe weather strikes, or a crash stalls traffic, the city of Seattle has a new tool to alert and notify people about emergencies. AlertSeattle went live Monday. It’s a real-time emergency communications system that the city said won’t just warn people but potentially save a life in the event of a major disaster.

Spokane fire said Monday a brush fire burning in west Spokane is contained. Officials said the fire started near the Indian Canyon Mobile Home Park off Government way just before noon. Crews said the fire was three acres and was fast moving. Firefighters said there is a transient camp in the woods.

Seven different fire departments have finally contained two large brush fires sparked Saturday evening in Pierce County. As of 1 p.m. Sunday, a containment perimeter had been completed so firefighters can focus on the hot spots remaining in the interior, Central Pierce Fire said. "I never thought that would happen here," resident Carrie Margo said.

The Wolverine Creek fire, burning northwest of Lucerne, 36 miles northwest of Chelan, has grown to more than 15,000 acres. The Wolverine Fire, burning on the west shore of Lake Chelan, grew significantly within a 24-hour period. Fire officials with the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center on Sunday said that level 3 evacuations were in place for 30 businesses and homes in Holden Village and Lucerne.
