A Yakima firefighter has been honored for his twenty years of service to our city.
Captain Jeff Pfaff was born and raised in Yakima. He was recognized by city council members at their meeting Tuesday night for his work here. Pfaff started out as a firefighter volunteer in the valley, then worked at Broadway fire station before working through the ranks in Yakima.

A new pumper truck will greatly help Benton County Fire District 4 battle the blazes around the Mid-Columbia.
This week, the new water tender purchase was announced. It carries 3,000 gallons of water, and can pump our at a rate of 500 gallons per minute.
Fire Chief Bill Whealan says while it was a considerable expenditure, it was far cheaper than a new truck, which would have cost around $600,000.

Connell has only had a paid fire chief for the last few years. Chief Chris Schulte has been a firefighter for pretty much his entire adult life. But he doesn't just lead Connell's volunteer-only crew. He's the man in charge at some of the most complex fires out there.
Schulte is one of very few Type I Incident Commanders in the nation.
