Port Angeles man dies in early morning house fire

A man died in an early morning house fire today, Port Angeles police said. Police and fire officials are investigating the fire at 218 E. Lopez Ave., Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said. The fire began at about 5:30 a.m., he said. A man in his mid-50s to 60s was found dead inside the house, Smith said.

Investigators working on report on firefighters' deaths

Thousands of firefighters have spent their summer working to contain the largest fire in Washington history. Now, as the fire season winds down, investigators are tasked with determining what killed three firefighters who were trying to put out the flames. Tom Zbyszewski, Andrew Zajac and Richard Wheeler died August 19.
