Firefighters dealt with 'inoperable hydrant' while battling house fire in Clark County

A non-functioning hydrant gave firefighters an added challenge while battling a house fire in Clark County early Monday morning. At around 2 a.m., Vancouver Fire crews were called out to a house fire in the 6600 block of Northeast 137th Street. In total, eight Vancouver Fire units and two units from Clark County responded to the scene.

Paraglider falls 100 feet off Poo Poo Point in Issaquah

A paraglider was seriously injured when he fell 100 feet off Poo Poo Point Sunday afternoon. The call for help came after the man's chute collapsed after leaping from the paragliding takeoff point, according to Eastside Fire officials. Crews set a high-angle rope rescue to retrieve the man, then flew him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

Fire destroys home of Everett family of 7

A family of seven lost their home in a fire early Saturday. No one was injured in the fire in the Eastmont neighborhood in unincorporated Everett, according to South County Fire. A resident reported the fire around 8:50 a.m. at a two-story house on Del Campo Drive. “No one was in the home at the time,” said Leslie Hynes, South County Fire public information officer.

Firefighters respond to two-alarm blaze at Firdale Villages Colonial Pantry in Edmonds

South County Fire crews responded to a two-alarm fire at Colonial Pantry restaurant in Edmonds’ Firdale Village just before 8 a.m. Friday morning. South County Fire spokeswoman Leslie Hynes says there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation. Fire crews were called out around 7:50 a.m. following a report of black smoke coming from the building.

Seattle mayor warns protective gear running low for first responders, medical facilities

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan (D) says first responders and medical facilities at the heart of America’s coronavirus outbreak will run out of desperately needed protective gear if they do not receive new supplies from a national stockpile in the coming days and weeks. In an exclusive interview, Durkan told The Hill that current estimates suggest there are more than 1,100 people in the greater Seattle area who are infected with the coronavirus, many of whom show few symptoms and therefore have not sought medical attention.
