Limited firefighting resources hampering Cougar Creek Fire effort

Officials said if additional state equipment and machinery are unavailable to fight the Cougar Creek fire, they may begin talking with private companies about leasing their equipment, such as water tenders and bulldozers, to help combat the fire. Firefighters combating the Cougar Creek Fire, around 6 miles northwest of Glenwood, are struggling with rapidly moving fire speeds and limited resources today.

Firefighters used helicopters to help fight wildfire west of Clarkston

A thunder and lightning storm swept through the LC Valley earlier Wednesday. KLEW News Reporter Alex Crescenti shows us what Asotin County firefighters were up against, west of Clarkston. Around 10:30a.m. Tuesday morning, Asotin County firefighters responded to flames spotted somewhere in the hills.

Spokane: Eight injured in industrial park chlorine gas leak

The Spokane Fire Department, assisted by other local emergency agencies, is managing the the leak of chlorine gas, which sent several people to the hospital in critical and serious condition. The incident happened Wednesday morning at Pacific Steel and Recycling, located at 1114 N. Ralph Street. Workers at Pacific Steel and Recycling confirmed a 55-gallon drum was in a metal crusher when it ruptured, releasing a cloud of yellow vapor came out.

Arbitrator rules against New Jersey city in contract dispute with fire officers

Jersey City lost a battle with its fire officers union last week, with an outside arbitrator ruling city officials had a "complete disregard" for its contract with the union when, in a cost-cutting move, it began using firefighters to fill captain and chief vacancies. The arbitrator also slapped the city for not giving enough notice when taking officers who usually work a Monday-Friday schedule and assigning them to a 24-hour tour of duty to fill unanticipated vacancies.

Update: Video shows collision between Miami fire truck, ambulance; Police investigating

VIDEO - A group of firefighters and several others are recovering after an ambulance collided with a 50,000-pound fire truck Tuesday near Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. "In 30 years on the job, this is the first time I've seen an accident at the same time of two apparatus," Miami Department of Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Pete Gomez said.
