The Wolverine Fire has grown to about 26,614 acres and is now burning two miles southwest of Stehekin across Lake Chelan.
“Helicopters worked early in the day to limit the northerly spread of the fire,” officials said Thursday morning. “Success of the water drops was aided by rocky outcroppings as well as less continuous fuels.

A big wildfire near the Columbia River has grown to 37.5 square miles, but is 50 percent contained.
Officials say the Highway 8 Fire near the town of Roosevelt is no longer threatening any homes. When the fire started on Tuesday it led to the evacuation of the town of Roosevelt, but people were allowed back in their homes on Wednesday.

A chemical spill at a Kent warehouse forced workers to evacuate the Fed-Ex facility late Wednesday night.
Firefighters from the Kent Regional Fire Authority responded to a reported chemical leak at the building in the 6200 block of South 228th Street, Kent FD reported.
An employee driving a forklift inside the warehouse accidentally punctured a 55 gallon drum, a fire department spokesman told Q13FOX News.

A Richland man was sentenced Wednesday to one year and three months in prison for attacking four firefighters as they tried to extinguish a small blaze in his apartment.
Nelson Aguayo was awaiting trial on that case when he slapped a nurse at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, destroyed medical equipment and spit on a Richland police officer.
