Why some say Tennessee's 'Move Over' law needs stronger enforcement to prevent first responder crashes, deaths

‘Move over’ is a law created to protect first responders on the scene of incidents. Unfortunately, drivers continue to ignore the siren and the flashing lights and it’s costing people their lives. After six big wrecks involving Memphis firefighters, leaders and families say enough is enough. Now there are calls to stiffen penalties for drivers who break the law, and for more enforcement.

Longtime firefighter dedicated to telling the story of the Denver Fire Department

VIDEO: When Denver’s Fire Station Number 1 was built in 1909, firetrucks were still pulled by horses. One-hundred-fourteen years later, the horses are gone but the building remains as a tribute to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to keeping the city safe. “The fire house itself is just something that’s very cherished,” says long time firefighter Steve Montoya.

Fire damages home in Winthrop

A fire above a propane fireplace damaged a home Sunday night in Winthrop. Okanogan County Fire District 6 responded just before 10 p.m. to a reported structure fire on Perry Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find flames in the wall and ceiling above a propane fire place. Fire crews were able to open the wall and extinguish the flames before checking to see if the fire had spread.

Aiken (SC) Celebrates Four New Fire Trucks Totaling $3M

Aiken Department of Public Safety, city leaders and members of the community celebrated the fire department’s four new fire trucks with a push-in ceremony Thursday, postandcourier.com reported.

The department purchased three new engine pump trucks and one ladder truck in December 2022, the report said.

The four trucks totaled about $3 million and were purchased using funds collected through the Capital Projects Sales Tax, as well as depreciation funds, according to the report.

The new trucks bring the total number of trucks in the department to eight, the report said. The trucks will be located at various fire stations throughout the city.

Some features of the new fire trucks include more effective fire hoses and front- and rear-facing cameras, the report said.
