Orange (CT) Dedicates New Fire Apparatus

A new fire truck dedicated at the Orange Volunteer Fire Department’s station, reports Orange Town News.

The new truck, designated Quint-32, went into service earlier this month. Equipped with a 75-foot aerial ladder, 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump and a variety of other tools, the Spartan/Smeal truck is designed to perform a variety of tasks at emergencies.  Firefighters held a dedication ceremony, called a wetdown, on July 17th.  In addition to showing off the new truck, the party included speeches and a cornhole tournament.

The truck replaces a 1978 Mack CK that had a 50-foot ladder and a 1,000-gallon-per-minute pump.

Pittsburgh Public Safety Warns Drivers About Yielding to Fire Apparatus

Pittsburgh Public Safety warned drivers about yielding to emergency vehicles by sharing dash camera video, reports Pittsburgh's Action News 4.

The video shows a truck behind a stopped car at the intersection going around the car, which put the truck in the path of a firetruck crossing the intersection while it had its lights and sirens on.

Protective Gear Stolen from Billings (MT) Fire Apparatus at Garage Fire

Protective gear was stolen from a fire truck on the scene of a garage fire, reports KTVQ Billings.

The protective equipment was valued at $350. An adapter, some eye protection and some structural firefighter's gloves were taken.

 Billings Fire Battalion Chief Jason Lyon said there likely will be a discussion of beter securing fire equipment in the future.

Man Crashes Into Fire Apparatus on San Diego Freeway

A car crashed into the back of a fire truck on a San Diego freeway and the driver admitted he was texting while driving, reports News 10 San Diego.

The driver said he was texting his friend to inform him that he was on the way home. The car caught on fire, but firefighters were able to put out the fire and checked the driver for any injuries.

The crash left a large dent on the fire truck’s rear bumper.
